Attacking force Elochukwu ‘Elo’ Ozumba netted 25 goals for the Houston Dynamo in USSDA competition during the 2012-2013 campaign. Ozumba scored 5 goals to lead the U15/16 Dynamo to three wins over Concorde Fire, PA Classics and New York Red Bulls in the USSDA U15/U16 playoffs a few weeks ago.
As a 6’2” striker, Ozumba presents a challenge to opposing center backs at this age level, but his game is not built only on physical dominance. Ozumba has spent time with the Houston reserve side and, by all accounts, he dazzled with his speed and skills.
OWTY has learned that Ozumba, a native of Nigeria, will be eligible to play for US youth international teams beginning in 2014. Ozumba is a resident of the US and will become a full citizen this next year. He has expressed interest in representing the US at a youth level, and hopes his form in the USSDA will bring him international opportunities.
Ozumba’s ascension through the Houston ranks very similar to recent Dynamo homegrown signee Bryan Salazar. Whispers around Houston are that Ozumba, too, will be looked at as a possible homegrown signing.
