OWTY has confirmed that ’95 usynt and current US Futsal team member Lucas Stauffer will join up with Danish 1st Division team Vejle Boldklub. Stauffer will join the club to play with their U19 squad and reserve team squad. However, Stauffer is hoping to rise through the ranks and sign with the first team by the season’s end.
Stauffer has been awarded a student visa to play with Vejle Boldklub, in order to save his amateur status in the United States.
Stauffer spent the last four years with USSDA powerhouse academy Shattuck-St. Marys. Stauffer and S-SM made it all the way to the USSDA U17/U18 final before falling to New York Red Bulls in the championship match through a goal in the 118th minute. Stauffer was instrumental for S-SM’s midfield, pulling the strings on a number of attacks and setting up multiple goals throughout the 2012-2013 season. Stauffer ended the season with six goals.
The 18 year-old Stauffer graduated from Shattuck-St. Mary’s and was scheduled to link up with Sporting Kansas City for the 2013-2014 USSDA season before heading to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Stauffer has spent the last few summers making his way around Europe training with some of the continent’s premier clubs. He spent time with FC Vitesse, FC De Graschop, FC Twente, Cambuur SC Leenwarden and Werder Bremen. Feyernoord, SC Freiburg and TSG Hoffenheim had also been rumored to be interested in the technically-gifted midfielder.
Stauffer’s ability on the ball makes him a coveted prospect. A US U18 call-up should be in his near future.
