In December we were fortunate to profile one of the top prospects in US soccer, Tommy Redding.
Redding has not disappointed since, starring for Javier Perez and the US U18s last week in the Copa del Atlantico. Redding was matched up against some of the best young attacking talents from Argentina and Spain. Redding’s performance in the Canary Islands has solidified his status as one of the most sought after defenders his age. Clubs from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and England are in hot pursuit of the imposing Floridian.
OWTY has learned that Redding stayed in Europe after the US U18’s recent tournament and is expected to return to the US next week. Redding will return to train with Orlando City next month.
It has been widely speculated that MLS new-boys Orlando City would love to make Redding their first signing. Redding, an Orlando native, has been long tied the Orlando club, despite moving from the Florida based FC America to play with USSDA super-club Chicago Magic PSG. Redding will play with Orlando City in some of their preseason matches, but will be returning to Europe for multiple trials in Germany with stops in England and Italy expected.
OWTY has also learned that Redding is the prime target for the nation’s top college programs. Education is an extremely important aspect for Redding, however, his increasing presence on the international stage has college coaches battling Champions League teams for his signature.
