U14s in Croatia

Much has been made about this group of US 2000’s, headlined by the name of Ben Lederman.

Lederman the prodigy from So Cal famously up-rooted from the Real So Cal Academy & NVSC Samba-landed a spot with Barcelona youth teams. The left-footed central midfielder has since donned the #10 shirt for the Catalan side. Ledeman spent the 2013-2014 season with Barcelona’s Infantil B side.

This U14 trip also includes Georgia United’s Christopher Goslin who has been involved with past U14 camps despite being a year young. Goslin has had serious interest from a number of clubs in Spain. Goslin leads Georgia United’s U14 side with 11 goals in USSDA play this season. Also involved is New York Red Bulls striker Timothy Weah who has spent time with previous US youth set-ups.

The U14s are made up of a solid core of players that have showed well this season in the USSDA U13/14 division. Along with Goslin and Weah, Jacob Muchinck (Los Angeles Galaxy), Jesus Sahagun (Weston FC), Charlie Anguiano (Chivas USA), George Acosta (Weston FC), Chandler Vaughn (DC United), Alex Budnik (Sockers FC), Jake Arteaga (LAFA), Brian Perez (LAFA), Charlie Asensio (Georgia United), Hunter Pinho (PDA), Jaylin Lindsey (CSA) are all regulars for their U14 sides.

Jean-Julien Foe Nuphaus (San Jose Earthquakes), Tristan Weber (Los Angeles Galaxy) and Jalen James (Dallas Texans) are all key members of their clubs future yet have not yet broken into their clubs starting XI for the USSDA season.

In addition to the USSDA stand-outs US Soccer has identified Andrew Carleton and Ayo Anikola as two of the hottest 2000s in the nation. Both Carleton and Anikola were priorities for this camp and are seen as key roster members moving forward. Ballistic United’s Nico Lemoine while not a known name in these circles yet has had lots of interest from clubs around Europe.

OWTY would be remissed to neglect to mention LA Galaxy new-boy Zico Bailey. Bailey is one of the most promising prospects in this group. Per sources close to the id2 trip, Bailey was one of the most impressive players on the pitch. Bailey’s move to LA Galaxy has further strengthened the already deep Galaxy Academy, and Bailey could be their new jewel.

Interesting to note that of the 22 players on the US U14 roster 7 were on the id2 trip.

The first game matched the US with the host side Croatia. Reports from the match suggest the game was very even with the US having their fair share of possession. The US struck by goals from Chris Goslin and Jake Arteaga.

A first half Hat-trick from Toronto FC ace Ayo Anikola caps the US U14 time in Europe with a 3-0 over Slovenia. Reports have suggested that the U14s have looked really good at times. HC Brian Johnson employs a much different style than was utilized under previous U14 HC Hugo Perez who valued possession and building from the back. Sources have confirmed to OWTY that Johnson is more direct in his tactics.

    • another good question. Strength of this 00 side is proving to be depth of MF. Palmbalm likely asked to join but staff wanted to keep eye on USSDA products right now.

  1. Benny Lederman never played for TFA (total fubol academy) He played for North Valley/Samba out of SO. Cal. which later became Pateadores and is now Los Angeles Futbol Academy coached by Juan Guerrero. Bryan Perez and Jake Arteaga were his team mates in So. Cal. Bryan Perez was one of the leading goal scores at Nationals and Jake Arteaga was the Golden Ball winner of 2014 National Cup along with Top 13 Player Award. Just kinda cool how these boys played on the same team and same coach.

  2. Thank you for correcting the article Joey. Also thank you for keeping us informed about the boys in Croatia.
