Following his Frankfurt U17’s victory in the Hale Tournament, a pre-season event, US U17 pool midfielder ’98 Christian Albelo has been invited to train with the Frankfurt first team this week.
Albelo has been very impressive with Frankfurt. The midfielder was utilized as a pure #10 in America before making his move to Germany in 2011 with club TSV Amicitia Vierheim. Albelo’s promise quickly took him to Hoffenheim where he enjoyed success. At Hoffenheim, and Frankfurt, Albelo has expanded his game to play more of the #6 or #8 positions in the midfield.
Albelo has become a key figure for the Frankfurt side and was named the tournament’s top player by the coaches and captains.
Despite his successes in Germany the US U17 side has been slow to call the Tennessee native. Albelo was a staple of the US U15 side and U17 team early on. With players like Pulisic, Calvillo and de la Torre the midfield is tight but considering his form Albelo deserves a hard look.
As we reported early at OWTY, the US is not the only youth National side looking at Albelo.
